Ran for one hour at the local walking park. While I cooled down I used the exercise equipment. Bars, rowing machine, eliptical, air walker and did a sit up or two. Didn't do many, I'll take it slow with the new exercise. It was a beautiful day and a good run.

Back in shape

I ran/jogged 60 minutes and walked 15 minutes. It took a month for me to get back to this point. I throughly enjoyed the run. To begin with my legs weren't holding up and they were getting very tired after ten minutes of running. Now I'm not having a problem. I'm alternating jogging and running in hopes of increasing my speed.
This is year 4 of running. I had planned to think about running a marathon by age 65, but I have changed my mind. The period of time that I ran 2+ hours at a time I believe it drove my immune system down and I had to make several trips to a doctor with everything from a boil to a nasty case of shingles. One hour may be my limit. I need to plan to run a 10K, but I'm chicken.

Looking back...

This is part of a blogged post I wrote in 2009 during the first year I began running:
"I am enthusiastic about the progress I have made. I began my exercise program 8 weeks ago on January 19, 2009. When I started I could barely run 100 feet at one time, now 8 weeks latter I can run 742 in one run and after a couple minutes walking break I can run 567 more feet to complete 1309 feet or a quarter of a mile."
The biggest change from 2009 to 2012, besides being able to jog without getting winded, is that I'm running by the mile instead of by the feet.
It has been one of the best things I've ever done for myself and I plan to keep at it for my forever.

Spring has sprung.

I haven't been as in to keeping exact records of my progress as a runner since the first year I ran. It is really nice to be able to look back over this blog and see how and where I started running and how far I've come.
Since January I've run at maintanence levels rarely letting a week go by without running, but sometimes only running for 15 minutes at a time. Now that the weather is warmer I'm back in training. In deference to my inactivity and the weight gain of 5 pounds I have started off slowly.

Mon: 10 minute run 10 minute walk
Tue: 10 minute run 10 minute walk
Wed: 5 min run - 5 min. walk; 5 min run - 5 min. walk; 3 min. run - 7 min walk.
thur: 25 minute run and 20 minute walk. This will count as weeks long run.
fri: rest.

Note: a little heavy leged. I think I can tell I'm having to pull 5 - 8 extra pounds. Am optimistic and motivated and happy to be back in "training" mode.

3 year running anniversary and Beginning of Year 4

I've started training twice a day. I'm not planning any races, but there is one in May that I could run.
I've been a little slack, which means several weeks have gone by since I ran. Mainly due to weather. Looks like we may have an early spring. But I've run consistently for 3 years now. Hip, hip hurah happy running birthday to me.

Still running

My weekly goal now is 300 minutes a week. That is 5 days of running 1 hour. I also walk to cool which adds more minutes.
I had to back off the marathon training because when I got past 2 hours per each run I started developing problems. Shingles, a boil an upper respirator infection which all pointed to overdoing it and showed my immune system was over reacting.

Long day

Ran 36 minutes walked 20 minutes AM.
Ran and walked (rotated) 1:12 PM.

Got a problem because I'm taking a medicine that creates photosensitivity. My hands and face are blistered.

5 K plans

I'm going to run the 5K at Hart Dam in Hartwell, GA. on May 7. I'm going to train by running 36 miniutes and walking 36 minutes. Two days a week I'll do that AM and PM and I'll pick one day to rest. Yesterday I ran 43 minutes and walked 20 minutes. Today I ran 36 and walked 36. Enjoyed both days.

Celebrated Labor Day

There were no races going on here in my new town so I ran to celebrate. For the first time ever I ran past one hour to 80 minutes. No problem. I've stuck to my schedule for marathon training this week. The first few days were 25 minute runs with a 45 minute in there then I took a rest day then I ran 80 minutes. Last night I drank a few drinks because of insomnia, I was going to take another rest day but changed my mind and ran for 15 minutes. To make up for the short time lifted weights for a while, rode on my bicycle pedals and walked on the stair stepper for a while.
Good week. Next week the short days or increased and then at the end of the week there will be a 1:10 run. That should be interesting.

Began training for a marathon Sept. 1st

Day one and two ran 25 minutes. Today I ran 45 minutes. I'm following a three month schedule from a book called Jog, Run, Race; by Joe Henderson. The book follows some of my own ideas about running and training.

Day one I drew up six pages of scheduled times. Day three I'm arguing with the concept of following a schedule. But I'm gonna do it!

I may never run a marathon, but I want to obtain and maintain that level of fitness and ability to run.

Last day of August

I ran 35 minutes yesterday, no break in the run.
Today I ran for fourty minutes walked around for a while, drank some water and then ran 20 more minutes.

Goal is to run at least 30 minutes one day and then 60 minutes the next.
I also worked in some interval running today in the first part of my run.
Effort: moderately easy, difficult because I didn't run without stopping. I had to take the break, but it was sunny and getting hot.

I love the cooler nights and think they energize me.

Little behind on my updates

I've continued to run. My knee was getting cranky so I started being more conservative. I run at least 15 minutes one day and 24 minutes the next. Yesterday I added a second evening run for 15 minutes. I feel good about my running and thoroughly enjoy it. I need to sign up for a race.
